27.75m x 27.75m Enhanced Safety™ Helipad for Victorian Heart Hospital

Seconds count when someone is in cardiac distress. That’s why Australia’s first standalone, specialist cardiac hospital has a state-of-the-art rooftop helipad.

The helipad at the Victorian heart Hospital is now operational after Air Ambulance Victoria completed a series of test take-offs and landings.

The helipad will play a vital role in providing faster emergency care and safer transport of critically ill patients. Around three cardiac patients will arrive by helicopter each week from all over Victoria.

The helipad has several unique features that contribute to its advanced functionality. The lighting system features circle-X lighting used on offshore helipads. This ensures optimal visibility for pilots during landing, especially at night. It is the first helipad located on mainland Australia to feature this advanced lighting system.

A series of perforated holes across the surface stops water from pooling. The helipad also incorporates special dampening features designed to minimise vibration and noise. This will be of great benefit to patients recovering inside the hospital.
